Zelda: Breath of the Wild

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild was released almost seven years ago, but the advancement in PC emulation and modding has made it so that the previous entry in the Nintendo series can look as good as more recent titles, if not even better.

A new 8K video shared by Digital Dreams shows how much the game's visuals are improved with some choice mods, including a ray-traced global illumination mod that truly makes Hyrule look like it never has before, putting even the more recent Tears of the Kingdom to shame when it comes to visual quality.

This modded version of Zelda: Breath of the Wild looks seriously amazing, and it will be a while until a Nintendo console will be able to deliver such visuals. The company's next console, at least, will support ray tracing, and it is set to surpass the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S in this regard, as the system will support NVIDIA's Ray Reconstruction tech, which was introduced to RTX GPUs on PC with the launch of DLSS 3.5. When it comes to performance, the Nintendo Switch 2 will apparently deliver smooth 1080p gameplay with ray tracing, so the new console will be a definite step up over its predecessor, although far from being able to deliver the visuals seen in the video above.
