At the WWDC 2024, some significant upgrades were featured to be coming to the watchOS 11 that mainly revolved around massive improvements in the health and fitness provisions. The keynote also mentioned some other salient additions, such as the translation app, which previously had to be downloaded, and the option to choose from many watch faces that help customize your wearable to your needs. Another update brought ahead with the new software release was not mentioned at the event, but users would be relieved to know about it.
Users can finally change the ringtone for their Apple Watch and choose from a set of options with the watchOS 11
While users are already intrigued by the changes coming to Apple Watch, they have been stuck with the default Pebble ringtone when taking calls or even for notification alerts. Although Apple did not discuss including the new feature to help change the monotonous tone at the keynote, we are happy the company is finally allowing users to change the ringtone with watchOS 11.
The Apple Watch Series 3 did come with a new ringtone, but the option to change it was not there previously. According to 9to5mac, in the beta preview available to developers, Apple Watch owners were now given more options for the wearable's default tone. When going to the Sound and Haptics on your Apple Watch, only the default ringtone was earlier available, but users can now scroll through a couple of ringtones that they can later select as the one for their smartwatch. Nighthawk, Wonder, and Twirl are some choices from eight different ringtones available.
This feature is not just limited to ringtones alone, as the option to change tones is extended to text message alert sounds, notification sounds, reminder alerts, and default alerts. The choices given are:
- Resonate
- Cheer
- Brilliant
- Flutter
- Tinker
- Moment
- Globe
- Timekeeper
- Scoop
Whether Apple intentionally kept this feature hidden or did not consider it important enough to be part of the key announcements is still uncertain. We are happy that the company is pivoting toward giving users more choice and autonomy with the recent upgrades. Some noteworthy improvements with the watchOS 11 include live activities support, a dedicated vitals app, pausing activity rings, and the new smart stack widgets. Keeping in view the tech giants' direction lately, Apple Watch users could see more customization coming to the series in the future, such as selecting a specific ringtone for a given contact.
