TennoCon 2026 delivered another big Warframe reveal by Digital Extremes, headlined by a brand-new Narrative Chapter that pushes the game beyond the Origin System for the first time, a new Chimera Warframe voiced by Matthew Mercer, and a full slate of cosmetic, seasonal, and endgame content confirmed for the rest of 2026.

Tau Takes Players Beyond the Origin System

Warframe's next major Narrative Chapter, Tau, sends the Tenno to an entirely new Star Chart called (you guessed it) the Tau System, marking the first time the game has expanded beyond its long-running Origin System setting. The chapter launches free on all platforms later this year, with the initial release centered on Fornax, a Sentient ring city, and at least one additional unrevealed location.

Fornax is depicted as a decaying, rain-soaked criminal metropolis where black rain corrodes both the environment and its inhabitants' minds, and where a highly addictive substance called Bloom fuels a citywide drug economy. Long-term addicts are shown as Bloom roots, eating away at people who no longer care because the drug numbs the psychological toll of the black rain. The main quest has players working with Albrecht Entrati, who awaits the Tenno's return, to investigate the fallen city and its criminal power structure. The primary antagonist is The Hunra, a ruthless crime boss voiced by Jonathan Bullock, who controls Fornax through Bloom production and a network of enforcers and smugglers. Developers described Hunra as a title rather than a proper name, suggesting the position itself may carry weight beyond the individual currently holding it.

Brysko: A New Chimera Warframe Voiced by Matthew Mercer

The Tau chapter introduces Brysko, a Chimera Warframe rather than a standard Warframe or Protoframe: he was specifically engineered by Entrati to serve as a trusted infiltration unit inside The Hunra's criminal circle ahead of the Tenno's arrival. Brysko is silent to the outside world but has a full inner monologue voiced by Matthew Mercer (famed for his work in The Legend of Vox Machina and Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, among many others), marking the actor's first work in the Warframe universe.

In the demo, Brysko poses as a low-level enforcer running errands for The Hunra while secretly feeding intelligence back to Entrati, risking violent retaliation if his double-dealing is discovered. He is shown carrying out enforcement jobs against small-time smugglers on Entrati's orders, all while building toward direct access to The Hunra's inner circle.

Combat-wise, Brysko wields a new brass-knuckle melee weapon called Rain & Shine, explosive playing cards as a secondary tool, and an Exalted revolver magnum named the Corecracker. He will ship as the Warframe bundled directly with the Tau update.

New Enemy Faction, Environment, and Card Mini-Game

Fornax's criminal underworld adds Portau, Warframe's first-ever card mini-game, built on poker mechanics but reworked with Sentient-themed suits called Blooms, Cores, Moons, and Suns. The game is portrayed as wildly popular in The Hunra's gambling dens, offering players a new social and risk-based activity directly tied to the Tau setting.

Fornax also introduces a distinct new Sentient enemy faction called the Fornax Drowners, described as Sentients that have evolved differently from those players have fought in the Origin System. The environment mixes high-end casinos, grimy shipping docks, and dilapidated slums, and the demo shows Warframes and Sentients seemingly reanimating on old battlefields to endlessly refight past wars — described in the demo as "mindless, heartless, dead" combatants stuck reliving old conflicts.

New Player Onboarding to Tau and Addressing Concerns about the Origin System

Despite the pivot to Tau, developers directly addressed concerns that Warframe is abandoning its existing setting, confirming that deep new story beats for the Origin System are still planned and ready to go. The team emphasized they intend to keep "both worlds alive" rather than treating Tau as a full replacement for existing content.

For players jumping into Warframe for the first time or returning after a long break, developers pointed to the in-game Tenno Tracker system as the best way to catch up. Following it end-to-end effectively delivers a guided campaign experience culminating in readiness for the Tau content, letting new players treat it as a structured story-first path through the game's sprawling narrative

August and Fall Updates Detailed

Starting in August, Nightwave is getting a themed takeover called Shockwave, hosted by Protoframe Amir (Volt), tied to the Warframe: 1999 storyline and the long-teased "Fables and Frontiers" concept involving Amir and the Hex crew. The event expands the in-game K.I.M. messaging system with a new permanent group chat feature and a walkable mini-adventure.

Developers stressed that the mini-adventure and its setup will remain in the game permanently, so only the reward track itself is time-limited to the Nightwave event window. Rewards include Hex-themed glyphs created by community artist Zildy, and the long-awaited third song from in-game boy band Onlyne, titled "Running Late."

Last but not least, Digital Extremes officially named the Warframe Fall 2026 update: Iceblade of Narin. Confirmed contents include:

  • A new, second female ice-themed Warframe, ending Frost's long solo reign over the ice theme
  • Citrine Prime, giving Citrine her first Prime variant, alongside new Prime weapons and accessories
  • A Qorvex Deluxe skin built around a gargoyle and dark-stone aesthetic
  • A Banshee Deluxe skin, created by community artist and tattoo artist Mishka
  • A full Banshee ability rework, confirmed after fan requests at Anime Expo

The studio claimed Iceblade of Narin will target players roughly at the "post Angels of the Zariman" progression point, making it a mid-to-late-game update rather than early-game content. Full details are planned to be shared in a devstream that will air on September 4 in Seoul, South Korea (the studio's first-ever event in the country).
