MediaTek is prepping its Dimensity 9400 for a launch later this year, The Taiwanese fabless semiconductor manufacturer is said to have a close relationship with Vivo, as the latter was previously reported to introduce its first flagship featuring high-end silicon. Now, according to one tipster, we have learned the name of this premium smartphone: the X200.
No launch date or other specifications of the Vivo X200 were shared, apart from the inclusion of a periscope zoom lens and bigger battery
It is not surprising to hear that Vivo’s X200 will be the first flagship to feature the Dimensity 9400, as the Chinese phone maker was the first to introduce the Dimensity 9300 that powered the X100 and X100 Pro models, and the Dimensity 9300+ featured in the X100s and X100s Pro. These past launches prove that both companies are strategic partners, with MediaTek likely reserving the first batch of its initial high-end chipsets for its customer.
Unfortunately, Smart Pikachu on Weibo has not revealed any other specifications of the Vivo X200 and has kept the Dimensity 9400 launch date under wraps, preventing us from learning about the chipset’s inception. For those that do not know, MediaTek is said to utilize TSMC’s second-generation 3nm process for this SoC, the same technology used for Apple’s M4. This should give the Dimensity 9400 enhanced performance and power-efficiency attributes that help it rival Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 4.
The tipster has mentioned that the Vivo X200 will have a periscope zoom camera and a bigger battery, hinting that the Dimensity 9400 may consume a little more power despite leveraging a more advanced manufacturing process from TSMC. A different tipster, who goes by the handle Digital Chat Station, mentioned that Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 flagships getting announced later this year will feature battery capacities of 5,500mAh or higher to compensate for the silicon’s high power draw.
It appears that both the Dimensity 9400 and Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 will attempt to outperform each other, as well as Apple’s upcoming A18 Pro, by running at a higher power limit, making larger batteries mandatory to deliver the increased runtime. As for the other specifications of the Vivo X200, we will likely find that information in the second half of 2024, so stay tuned.
