There are a few lucky souls who get free hardware, but we aren't jealous. This time, it's a nearly $2000 high-end GPU a user got even after Amazon issued a refund.
Redditor Cancels ROG Astral RTX 5080 Order from Amazon; Amazon Issues Refund and Lets Him Keep the $1850 GPU As Well
Getting free hardware is rare, but it's definitely possible. It mostly happens by mistake, but it must be a wonderful feeling when the seller lets you keep it. We recently saw how a user got two boxes filled with high-end NVMe SSDs, and today another Redditor reported how he got a free GPU from Amazon. The Redditor u/spaceman329 reports that he ordered the ASUS ROG Astral RTX 5080 White edition on Amazon, which right now is listed at $1850.
He cancelled the order to buy from Micro Center (likely due to a lower price or preference), and therefore, Amazon refunded him. After a few days, the GPU from Amazon still showed up, which couldn't make its way back to the store for unknown reasons. The user says that he contacted Amazon and offered to pay for the GPU or send it back, but Amazon let him keep it, citing that the mistake was on their end.
Thanks Amazon! Cancelled an order as Micro Center had some in stock, was refunded and somehow a couple of days later this shows up on my doorstep. 😮
***EDIT: As stated in the comments, I had already contacted Amazon offering to pay but they said as the refund was already processed, it's an error on their end and to keep the item 🙂

The GPU costs nearly $2000, which is nearly twice the cost of the Founders Edition. The ROG Astral GPUs are usually much more expensive than other editions (even the premium ones from other vendors), and it's a rare luck to have one of them for free. The GeForce RTX 5080 is one of the most powerful GPUs today that can max out graphical presets at 4K and can deliver high frame rates.
While the user didn't share his PC specs, the entire setup likely costs less than $2000, excluding the GPU, which is extraordinary, given the current state of the market.
