Trump Mobile’s Garish Afterthought – The T1 Phone – Is Leaking The Personal Information Of Its 30,000 Or So Users

Trump Mobile's T1 Phone has just started shipping after a months-long delay and a litany of missed deadlines. Yet, it is apparently not done courting controversies, with the latest tidbit pointing to the smartphone's troubling proclivity for leaking the personal information of its users, adding to the brouhaha around its generous dose of vaporware.

The $499 T1 Phone from Trump Mobile comes with a pre-installed Truth Social app and a sieve-like approach to data privacy

When Trump Mobile first touted the T1 Phone as "made in America," perhaps the company was being inordinately honest. After all, the T1 Phone seems exactly the kind of device one would expect the NSA to conjure from its labyrinthine halls, even if Trump Mobile has now altered its marketing for the phone to "assembled in America."

YouTubers Coffezilla and penguinz0 have now published separate videos in short order, detailing that a security researcher recently provided them evidence that their respective T1 Phones were leaking data, including "mailing address, email address, you know, everything short of credit card number is being leaked."

Later on in his video, Coffeezilla leverages unique IDs contained within the leak itself to make an educated guess that just around 30,000 people appear to have ordered the T1 Phone, which is merely a fraction of the 590,000 pre-orders that Trump Mobile claims, with each such pre-order entailing a $100 deposit.

Of course, NBC News recently gave us a first-look of the T1 Phone, showing an HTC U24 Pro clone, replete with the pre-installed Truth Social app, a 6.78-inch screen, a 50MP main rear camera and selfie camera, a 5,000mAh battery, 512GB of storage, and a 3.5mm headphone jack, all for just $499 (promotional pricing).

Of course, when we last commented on the T1 Phone renders, we had been forced to admit that the device resembled a tacky imitation of what a sleek smartphone should look like. Unfortunately, our opinion about the T1's aesthetics has not improved by much after viewing real-world units.

The phone retains its unhealthy obsession with a garish yellow color that the company insists resembles burnished gold. The dual rear branding of the word "Trump Mobile" - on the camera island and at the bottom - is still superfluous. And, the color scheme of the American flag appears incongruous with the tacky yellow frame.

All in all, this looks like a phone designed by the NSA to nominally function like a smartphone, but in reality functions as a snooping device. Buyer beware!
