Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis will mark the return of the series on PC and consoles in years, but last month, it seemed the remake of the very first entry in the series would take longer than anticipated to release and only see the light of day in 2027. According to a recent post on the official LinkedIn profile of developer Electric Square, spotted by Tomb Raider Chronicles, this won't be the case, as the game is still set for a 2026 release.
"Electric Square is honoured to have supported Crystal Dynamics and Flying Wild Hog on their upcoming reimagination of Lara Croft's global debut in Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis," the post reads. "Some Legends are Destined to be Retold — experience the pinnacle of adventure with Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis, a stunning reimagining of Lara Croft’s 1996 genre-defining game with jaw-dropping visuals powered by Unreal Engine 5, modern gameplay, and new surprises that honour the spirit of the original."
At the end of the post, the most important bit of information: "Coming 2026."
Considering how developer Crystal Dynamics has gone through multiple waves of layoffs, the latest in March 2026, it wouldn't be surprising for the studio to have some difficulties working on both Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis and Catalyst, the next true main entry in the series. Still, without an officially confirmed release date, it remains to be seen if the remake will indeed debut this year, and how it will try to avoid the Grand Theft Auto 6 November 19 release date, as every other publisher is attempting to.
Will we see Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis release in late Summer or early Fall, if it indeed sticks to its 2026 release window? With the June gaming showcases coming up, it's likely we won't have to wait much longer to learn this.
