The Tiny PS5 Redux is a modded PlayStation 5 model that not only looks slick, but also packs some cooling improvements and other enhancements over an older modded model that make it one of the most interesting we have seen to date.
The modded PS5 system was created by YouTuber Not From Concentrate, who detailed the choice of new case, cooling system and the modding process in a new video shared online a couple of days ago.
As already mentioned, the new Tiny PS5 Redux is the second attempt by the modder to create a compact version of the PlayStation 5. The original model reduced the system's size by around 60%, but it came with some issues, including power supply instability and running warmer than the vanilla model. This made it a nice modding exercise, but with limited usability for most users.
The Redux model doesn't suffer from any of these issues: its compact aluminum body was expertly crafted to let the user have a good look at the console's internals while retaining access to all of its features, including all USB ports, power, and eject buttons, and providing a handle for easy transportation of the compact system.
The biggest improvement of the new modded PlayStation 5 system over the original, however, is the improved cooling. For the system, Not From Concentrate retained the original heatsink plates and paired them with an Alpenföhn Black Ridge CPU cooler and two 120 mm slim Noctua fans in a push–pull configuration, with three 60mm Noctua fans venting heat through the handle exhausts.
This new cooling configuration works wonders for the system. In the test conducted with Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, the modded system ran at an average of around 56 °C, compared to the 59 °C average of a stock PlayStation 5.
