The release date we were all waiting for has come and gone, June 5th has passed, and the Nintendo Switch 2 is available worldwide for those lucky enough to have grabbed a pre-order or found a console at their local store.

With all the anticipation and hype around the Switch 2, sales expectations for the console are through the roof, and it seems that sales have already blown the roof off in France alone.

According to GyoJvfr, and shared by noted French sales insider Pierre485, the Nintendo Switch 2 is now the fastest-selling console in France ever, doubling the previous record held by the PS5 by selling more than 200K over the weekend.

Pierre485 does stress that until Nintendo FR confirms these numbers, these claims do not represent actual sales, but they are an early sign that the Nintendo Switch 2 has the potential to be the biggest console launch ever, worldwide. It would also potentially be the biggest launch for a Mario Kart game, if the attach rate in France is anything to go by for the rest of the world, as almost every Nintendo Switch 2 purchased has been the one bundled with Mario Kart World.

It's not yet set in stone that the Nintendo Switch 2 will have the kind of opening year that some have been anticipating, but if these early reports are anything to go by, then Nintendo is well on its way.

Sales numbers can be exciting, but elsewhere in the launch of the Switch 2, things haven't been as rosy. A retail store in the US sent players home from a midnight launch with damaged units after store employees stapled receipts to the front of the Switch 2 box, puncturing holes into the console's screen, and early analysis of the console shows that it hasn't exactly shipped with top-of-the-line hardware.
