After KGI's Ming-Chi Kuo announced his retirement earlier this month, leaks for the 2018 iPhone lineup have come to a near standstill. Kuo was very active since the beginning of the year and provided us with detailed information for the iPhone 9, iPhone XS and the iPhone XS Plus. Out of the trio, Apple is expected to hedge its bets on the iPhone 9, as the company will manufacture and ship more of the device than the other two combined. Today, we've got a leak that might represent the iPhone 9 (tentatively dubbed). Or, it might not. Take a look below for more details.

Interesting Display Leak Claims To Display A 6.1" Panel Belonging To A 2018 iPhone; Will The iPhone 9 Feature An OLED Display Or Is The Source Confused By Display Builds?

As far as leaks come, today's looks pretty authentic. If it weren't for a catch. We've got an image from an old source who is one of the best out there when it comes to leaking Apple's components. As mentioned above, Apple is expected to launch three iPhones this year. These are the iPhone 9, iPhone XS and iPhone XS Plus.

The trio will feature different screen sizes and builds. The iPhone Xs and iPhone XS Plus will carry 5.8" and 6.5" OLED displays respectively. The iPhone 9, on the other hand, will feature a 6.1" LCD panel. These details are some of the last ones provided by KGI's former analyst Ming-Chi Kuo.

The iPhone 9 is rumored to bring down manufacturing costs for Apple as the company is eager to cast its FaceID net as far as possible. The smartphone is expected to retail at $750 and misses out on 3D Touch. With this in mind, take a look at the image below.

This image is shared with the tagline "iPhone X 6.1 OLED''. This is interesting as the only 6.1" device on the rumor mill's current itinerary is the iPhone 9, rumored with an LCD display as mentioned above. Which begs the question. Is the source wrong or will we indeed get a 6.1" OLED iPhone this year?

Right now, our guess is that while this leak is authentic, Mr. White has mixed up display builds. Which is uncanny given his experience with hardware. The alternative doesn't sound quite logical either. While it makes sense for Apple to launch two OLED successors to the iPhone X and one LCD iPhone 9, three new OLED smartphones really are counterintuitive.

That being said, we're glad for the leak. It makes things interesting once again and will get the ball rolling for some debate. Thoughts? Let us know what you think in the comments section below and stay tuned. We'll keep you updated on the latest.
