TECNO SPARK Slim Is A Concept Smartphone That Is Thinner Than The Upcoming Galaxy S25 Edge, But Packs A Bigger Battery Than The Galaxy S25 Ultra

TECNO SPARK Slim aims to become the industry's thinnest smartphone

Phone makers have gone back to the times when launching handsets that boasted insane levels of thinness was the norm. Samsung is expected to add the Galaxy S25 Edge to this list when it announces the new device in the month of May, and later in the year, Apple is expected to keep the cycle going with the iPhone 17 Air launch. Another player has entered this category, TECNO, and it aims to not only deliver what it proudly claims is the industry’s thinnest smartphone, but its latest SPARK Slim concept aims to provide a bigger battery, along with other impressive internals.

SPARK Slim likely leverages silicon-carbon batteries, but TECNO has not announced any plans of putting this smartphone on the mass production line

The most obvious pitfall of launching a device with unworldly levels of thinness is that these ship with relatively small batteries, and as a direct consequence of this design change, these smartphones do not last for that long and have a tendency to overheat. TECNO aims to address at least one area with the SPARK Slim, which will be unveiled during the MWC 2025 trade show that kicks off on March 3. What is thoroughly impressive about this smartphone is that it has a thickness of just 5.75mm.

This makes the Galaxy S25 Edge much thicker, as its dimensions were previously reported to measure 5.84mm. Additionally, TECNO crammed in a large 5,200mAh battery, which is bigger than the cell found in Samsung’s top-end Galaxy S25 Ultra. The SPARK Slim also features two 50MP rear cameras, a 6.78-inch AMOLED panel with curved edges, a 1224p resolution, and a refresh rate that maxes out at 144Hz. The display can touch a peak brightness level of 4,500 units and has a 13MP front-facing camera.

As you would have guessed, a large camera bump protrudes from the backside, but consumers have to get used to this design if they want to impress the surrounding populace. The battery is 4.04mm thick and supports up to 45W fast charging. TECNO did not specify which variant it used to increase the capacity. Still, like the rest of the Chinese brands, we strongly believe that the cell is based on silicon-carbon technology, which increases the battery’s capacity without adversely contributing to its thickness.

There are no details on which chipset is housed inside the SPARK Slim, and TECNO has not confirmed if it will mass produce the device. The company previously showcased its 10-inch tri-fold smartphone called the Phantom Ultimate 2, but it never witnessed a commercial release either, so we fear that the SPARK Slim might just be another concept shown to the press and masses to gain some spotlight. We hope that the company proves us wrong and pushes through with a release.
