Bloomberg reports today that Nintendo is quietly raising its Switch 2 production quota to 20 million units for this fiscal year, a 20% increase over the 16.5 million units publicly outlined in the latest financial report that was released earlier this month. Nintendo is used to sharing very conservative estimates that are then handily beaten by the actual results.

Dr. Serkan Toto, a renowned industry analyst, said as much to Bloomberg; he also believes that even the higher Switch 2 price won't stop consumers from buying the console.

For them, there is no real downside in lowballing numbers first and then surpassing them later. The just-finished fiscal year is a good example. Consumers will get used to the higher cost eventually, and there are creative ways for Nintendo to soften the blow, such as with bundles. My prediction is 18 million Switch 2 units this fiscal year, and I would not be surprised if the actual number will be higher than this.

Nintendo's decision to ask for around 20 million units to be manufactured is doubly notable as it comes shortly after the aforementioned price increase in key markets (+$50 in the United States, +€30 in Europe), suggesting the company believes demand can withstand sticker shock. While its public guidance points to 16.5 million units for the fiscal year, the supplier target implies Nintendo is still planning for something closer to another blockbuster year, with bundles and software likely doing some of the heavy lifting.

To put it bluntly, Nintendo thinks the upcoming Switch 2 lineup can continue to drive demand for the console even at this higher price and in a challenging economic climate. Here's what we know about the publicly announced console's game lineup:
