1000xResist developer Sunset Visitor revealed its next project, Prove You're Human, this past April, and today, during Summer Game Fest and Day of the Devs, the studio dug more into the creepy, human-driven narrative it has coming next. A new trailer showcased some additional gameplay, with narrative designer Pinki Li and animator Daniel Beaulieu talking about the creation of the game's protagonist, Mesa, an AI that believes she's a human.

While 1000xResist remains an incredibly timely work of art grappling with the impact of the 2020 and 2021 lockdowns due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Prove You're Human is proving once again that Sunset Visitor has its finger on the pulse of the world's biggest issues. Your player character is a woman named Santana, who has split her consciousness, living her life in the real world and working in a digital world.

At work, she meets Mesa, an AI who dreams she's human, and it's Santana's job to tell her otherwise, or "put her in her place," as Li says in the trailer. Beaulieu, for their part, talks a bit about the challenges that went into animating Mesa, and the different micromovements on her face, each of which are informed by the studio establishing an animation pipeline that lets the game's writers suggest animations directly in their documents.

"Prove You're Human asks players to split in two, to handle both physical and digital duities," said Remy Siu, Sunset Visitor founder, in a press release. "This duality is echoed throughout the game, but also drives our approach to development. Our team is made up of artists in all their forms: dancers, musicians, filmmakers, and more. We explore them all as expressions of our own lived experiences to create a real human connection between our realities, and celebrate the differences bringing us together."

There's unfortunately still no release date set for Prove You're Human, though hopefully we'll soon have a date to look forward to. For everything Summer Game Fest, check out our hub page with all of the biggest announcements.
