While today's Nintendo Direct was stuffed mostly with ports of games previously released elsewhere and a few new titles and DLC updates sprinkled in between, it capped off with a couple of major reveals. One was the expected reveal of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Remake, while the other was another look at Kingdom Hearts 4 after years of silence, alongside a reveal that the rest of the series will make its way to Nintendo Switch 2 in one jam-packed collection.

Kingdom Hearts 4 was first announced back in 2022, and since then we've barely seen any updates on the game since. A couple images of concept art and a comment from Square Enix that the game was "on schedule" in September 2025 is about all we've heard of the game in the last four years. Now, we actually have more than just a cinematic trailer to point to as proof that the game is being made and is on its way.

We didn't get any hint towards a release window, but we did get confirmation that it'll arrive on Nintendo Switch 2 at launch, with a press release afterwards adding that it'll also arrive on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.

What we did get a release date for however, is the big Kingdom Hearts collection that'll be coming to Nintendo Switch 2. A demo is available now for Switch 2 owners to check the collection out, which will show off a bit of Kingdom Hearts 3, starting you off at the beginning of the game in one phase of the demo and then skipping ahead to the middle of the game for the second phase of the demo.

As for what's included in the collection, Square Enix left no stone unturned as players will be able to dive into:

The Kingdom Hearts Collection will arrive on October 8, 2026, which will likely give you plenty of time to play through each game and its various additional bits ahead of Kingdom Hearts 4, since it seems like we'll still be waiting quite a while before it is ready to release.
