Unknown Worlds highly anticipated sequel to its beloved indie hit and the most wishlisted game on Steam, Subnautica 2, finally has an exact release date. It'll arrive in Early Access on PC in just two weeks from the time of this writing on May 14, 2026.

The release date reveal arrives alongside a new cinematic trailer that teases a bit of what players can expect from Subnautica 2, as it looks to up the ante as far as the creatures you'll face in the uncharted alien waters and what mysteries could be lurking underneath and above the ocean.

The news also follows KRAFTON, who may or may not be publishing the game, revealed it would arrive at some point in May 2026 after it lost the massive legal battle it had been embroiled in with the original creators of Subnautica and the founders of Unknown Worlds.

While the Unknown Worlds founders were able to win their case, the confusion around who is publishing the game remains because, as far as we're aware, Unknown Worlds is still a subsidiary of KRAFTON. It would be a surprise, though not a completely unexpected result, Unknown Worlds fully took over publishing duties and then also found a way to leave KRAFTON's umbrella and continue as an independent studio again.

Fans of Unknown Worlds and Subnautica would probably welcome the studio's renewed independence if it went that route, especially as it seems nigh impossible for players to trust KRAFTON after everything it seemingly did to sabotage the Unknown Worlds co-founders was aired out in court.

Regardless, fans of the deep-sea exploration series will be able to dive into Subnautica 2 sooner than later. A post on the game's Steam page also confirms the exact time the game will become available across the globe, which you can check out below.
