Today, Ukrainian developer GSC Game World revealed the release date for the STALKER 2 expansion, STALKER 2: Cost of Hope. The DLC is coming to PC, Xbox Series S|X, and PlayStation 5 on Thursday, August 20, 2026.

The enduring struggle between the Zone's dominant factions (Duty and Freedom) is about to take a significant turn in this new non-linear narrative arc. As tensions escalate and the delicate peace between them starts to disintegrate, the future of the Zone hangs precariously in the balance. In Cost of Hope, players will once again assume the role of Skif (the main character from STALKER 2: Heart of Chornobyl) as a mysterious PDA signal lures him into events that unfold parallel to the main storyline. They'll venture into unexplored territories, meet surprising allies and foes, uncover powerful weapons, and immerse themselves in a captivating new storyline. The developers promise "countless" hours of gameplay, and also that the player's decisions will influence the Zone's destiny.

Set to launch alongside STALKER 2: Cost of Hope on August 20, an extensive and free Update 2.0, titled Sealed Truth, for STALKER 2: Heart of Chornobyl is on the way. This update will not only upgrade the game to a new version of Unreal Engine 5 but will also introduce a host of new content and enhancements. More information will be shared about both Cost of Hope and Update 2.0 in the coming weeks.

STALKER 2 was recently in the news because one of the studio's founders, Serhiy Hryhorovych, claimed that Xbox had paid more than the entire game's development cost just for a one-year timed console-exclusive deal. However, GSC Game World disputed that, clarifying how Hryhorovych was never part of the negotiations (or, indeed, of the game's development cycle) and therefore cannot provide any correct information either way).
