STALKER 2: Cost of Hope is the upcoming DLC expansion for GSC Game World's powerhouse of tense first-person shooter survival gameplay that is STALKER 2: Heart of Chornobyl. It'll arrive at some point this coming summer, and ahead of that launch, GSC Game World just debuted a new story trailer, setting the stage for another journey into the Zone.
This new expansion puts players in the middle of the conflict between two factions, while joining Zulu and Mavka as they endure the Zone to try to uncover a deeper mystery amidst the fighting. It's nothing less than the kind of intense, mind-bending adventure you'd expect from the developers at GSC Game World and from a new bit of STALKER storytelling.
Today's trailer shows a bit more of the areas players will have the chance to explore, and a sneak peak at the tense moments you'll get to experience along the expansions campaign.
While the Cost of Hope expansion is set to add "dozens" of hours of gameplay for players, it's arrival isn't the only thing STALKER 2 fans have to look forward to. Alongside the Cost of Hope, which is a paid expansion, GSC Game World will also launch Sealed Truth, another major update that includes more story content, but this update is a free addition for all players.
Sealed Truth takes players deeper into the X-18 lab, where you'll find more about the voice that helped you the last time you were there during the main campaign. So even if you're not able to put some money down for the DLC, you'll still have something new to play. If you already grabbed the game's Ultimate Edition, however, you'll have access to the Cost of Hope right at its launch as well.
STALKER 2 may have launched in a messy technical state, but that didn't stop Wccftech's Alessio Palumbo from seeing the game's best parts, giving it an 8/10 in his review. "STALKER 2: Heart of Chornobyl is a worthy successor of the original in every regard, good and bad," he wrote. "The vision is the same: an uncompromising game that will often frustrate you, but also offers a unique experience that can hardly be found anywhere else."
"It's the classic example where the total is more than the mere sum of its parts. Bugs and balance issues are still very much an issue, but they shouldn't stand in your way of playing, especially if you're willing to wait a while for developers and modders to fix them. If you enjoy open world games and shooters and don't mind a challenge, there's no reason for you to pass up on this game."
