The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales will be the next HD-2D game to release, and from today, players on all platforms are able to experience the beginning of the game with a new playable demo, 30 days before the game officially launches worldwide.
As the name implies, the Prologue demo features the opening chapter of the full game, with the same freedom of adventure. As such, it is possible to progress in the main quest, explore different locations, and collect the new weapons and magicite to customize Elliot's combat abilities, although with some limitations, as there are some closed-off areas that will be available in the final game. Better yet, save data and progress can be imported into the full version of the game when it launches on June 19 on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and Xbox Series S.
The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales Prologue demo isn't the first time players can get hands-on with the top-down action RPG developed by the creators of Octopath Traveler and Bravely Default, as an early demo was released on Nintendo Switch 2 back when the game was announced last year. This early demo, however, doesn't allow for any save data carryover, which makes sense given that the game likely has changed since its release.
Still, Square Enix's approach to demos is commendable. For quite a while, the Japanese publisher has released prologue demos for all its major releases, often with the option to carry save data to the full versions, as with Dragon Quest VII Reimagined and the recent Final Fantasy VII Rebirth demo on Nintendo Switch 2 and Xbox Series X|S.
While other publishers do release demos for their upcoming games, not many do it in the same capacity as Square Enix, but they definitely should, especially for games like The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales, which is a brand-new, untested IP, as it has been proven to be a winning strategy. Although it did not allow progress carryover, the PRAGMATA demo released by CAPCOM months before the game's release likely played a big part in the game's success.
