Final Fantasy VII Remake Part 3 is setting out to be the explosive conclusion of the trilogy, redefining the trilogy's scale with the Highwind airship and finally making Cid and Vincent playable. Besides continuing Zack's story, the third entry in the series will also see the return of Chadley in an important role. He could even become a playable character, judging from what director Naoki Hamaguchi told Restart in a fresh interview.
“We understand that many fans are fond of Chadley. However, whether he’s become a playable character is something we’re unable to comment on at this time,” said Hamaguchi-san, which is an interesting statement, to say the least. Although he may have been coy on the matter to avoid saying anything specific about the yet-to-be-officially-revealed game, the fact that he did not outright dismiss the possibility suggests we may get additional playable characters alongside Cid and Vincent, which is something a leak suggested last month.
“That said, Chadley will continue to play an important role even in the final installment of the trilogy,” Hamaguchi-san continued. “His strong curiosity and tendency to talk a bit too much, inherent traits that he’s aware of and somewhat self-conscious about, will be further explored in the third game, too. It’d make me happy if players could warmly follow how Chadley becomes involved in the story and what role he takes in supporting it.”
Besides commenting on Chadley's role in the upcoming sequel, Hamaguchi-san did not say anything truly new about the final entry in the series. However, he did reiterate how the entire trilogy has never been about repeating the same experience, and how Part 3 will further evolve what we have seen in Remake and Rebirth.
This remake series has never been about repeating the same experience. Remake focused on a story-driven experience, while Rebirth made a major shift toward an open-world design that utilizes the world map. In the final installment of the trilogy, the game evolves even further, expanding its scale through the Highwind. By changing and evolving the core experience with each title, we feel we’ve been able to maintain the interest and excitement of a larger number of game fans," Hamaguchi-san explained.
With so many Final Fantasy VII Remake Part 3 tidbits getting revealed lately, there's little doubt the game's reveal should be coming very soon. As things stand, if the plan is to reveal it during the non-E3 season next month, chances are very high the game will be announced during the Summer Game Fest showcase on June 5, as the PlayStation State of Play presentation takes place on June 2, one day before Final Fantasy VII Rebirth's release on Nintendo Switch 2 and Xbox Series X|S.
