Following an unofficial reveal from series creator Yuji Horii, it is now official: more information on the future of the Dragon Quest series will arrive during tomorrow's 40th Anniversary broadcast.

Airing on May 27 at 6:00 AM PT / 9:00 AM ET / 3:00 PM CET in both English and Japanese, the event will run for 10 minutes and deliver updates straight from the Dragon Quest team. No additional information has been revealed, but thankfully, we don't have to wait long to learn more about what is in store for one of the longest-running JRPG series ever.

Despite Dragon Quest XII: The Flames of Fate disappearing right after its announcement back in 2021 (due to hurdles that led to a development reboot), the series stayed rather active in the past few years with the release of the 2D-HD remakes of the first three entries in the series and of Dragon Quest VII Reimagined, the second remake of the seventh entry in the series originally released on the first PlayStation. In addition, multiple spin-off games have been released in the past few months, highlighting how the franchise has been alive and well despite the continued absence of the next mainline entry.

As 10 minutes is a relatively short run time, we shouldn't expect an extended deep dive into any future games. However, the chances of a proper first look at Dragon Quest XII: The Flames of Fate are extremely high. It is also possible that more remakes could be announced, such as 2D-HD versions of the fourth, fifth, and sixth entries in the series. Personally, I would love to see Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King on modern platforms, even with a simple remaster, as it is my favorite entry in the series.
