Spider-Man 2

Needless to say, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 has been a major success, but surprisingly, Insomniac hasn’t really revealed what their plans might be for post-launch content. 2018’s Spider-Man had the paid The City That Never Sleeps season pass, but nothing of the sort has been announced for Spider-Man 2.

Well, per the recent Insomniac leaks, the studio is planning something a bit different for Spider-Man 2. According to the leaks, Marvel’s Venom, which will probably be a Miles-Morales-style “half-sequel” is coming in 2025, but in the meantime, another leaked document indicates Spider-Man 2 owners can look forward to a series of free DLC updates throughout 2024.

The first of these, slated for the first 3 months of 2024, is called “Beetle Invasion” and, as the name implies, will focus on the classic B-tier Spidey villain Beetle. You can expect a new open-world mission and boss fight from that update.

The second update comes in spring of 2024 and is called “Extreme Carnage.” I bet you can guess which villain this one focuses on! Again, you can expect a new mission and boss fight.

Finally, during the 2024 holiday season we’ll get “Spider-Verse Anomaly,” which will offer a Spider-Verse-flavored mission, villains (multiple), and perhaps some cameos from various Spider-Verse allies. There will also be a visual filter that gives the whole game a Spider-Verse look. Shortly after the release of this DLC, Insomniac plans to release the Spider-Man 2 GOTY Edition will all the content on disc, which could also coincide with the game’s PC release (although no guarantees on that one).

Sounds like a pretty decent lineup of stuff. Perhaps not as exciting The City That Never Sleeps, but it’s hard to complain when the content will be free. Of course, nothing is official until Insomniac actually announces it, plans can change, but this approach seems likely given how much is on Insomniac’s plate.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is available now on PS5. What do you think? Any of the leaked DLC peak your interest? I like deep-cut villains, so I’m kinda looking forward to beating up Beetle.
