There is no way to overlook the fact that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 managed to impact the mobile world as it is one of the best chipsets we have found on a smartphone. I have tested and used several phones sporting the same chipset, and it is easily one of the most powerful SoCs available. However, some new information has surfaced that talks about how there might be a cut-down version of the mighty flagship. This new chipset will be called the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 and has just appeared on Geekbench.

A cut-down Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 delivers half the performance when compared to the higher-end version and could debut pretty soon

The Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 appears to be powering a Realme phone, which should not really come as a surprise because the Chinese smartphone company is known for making some really handy budget devices. So, it would make sense why Realme would pick a cut-down version to power a more affordable device. You can check the Geekbench listing below, and then we will talk more about what we know about this chipset.

You can see in the listing above that the alleged Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 does not perform on the same level as its elder brother, which scores higher in both single and multi-core. For the sake of reference, I have seen the elder sibling going as high as 2,329 in single-core tests and 7,501 in multi-core tests. So, this chipset is performing at half the speed, but of course, this seems like a device that is not completely ready, so the final scores might improve.

Another change that you can see in the cut-down chipset is that the processor appears to be running an Adreno 735 GPU instead of the 750 found in the elder sibling. It is also running at a lower speed of 3.01GHz, and last but not least has a core configuration of 1+3+4 instead of 1+5+2.

Whether this is a cut-down version of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 that is being dubbed as the 8s Gen 3, or it is some other chipset, I am really interested in seeing what Qualcomm does with this chipset and how it positions itself in the market. It would be interesting to see how much this Realme device costs compared to all the other devices with similar specs in the market. Of course, it is too early to say anything, so we will keep an eye out and see what Qualcomm comes out with.
