Qualcomm has managed to keep a lid on things as far as Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 leaks go, and the only time we have heard about the upcoming chipset’s existence and potential performance is through a series of rumors. Well, for the first time, we have spotted a reference device running the San Diego firm’s SoC in the latest video, and though it does not reveal any intricate details of the silicon, it is still amusing to learn that YouTube ended up being the source of this information.

Qualcomm was actually promoting the Snapdragon X Elite when the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 reference device was spotted

A reference device with a dark blue chassis with several stickers and labels at the back was spotted by eagle-eyed @Za_Raczke. Even though Qualcomm uploaded the video intending to show the audience how it developed the Snapdragon X Elite, an SoC that will eventually power Windows notebooks. Regardless, in the first screenshot, we can see that various commands are running in a separate window, which is most likely new software being installed on the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 reference device.

From the multiple command lines, we spotted the name ‘Pakala,’ which is the codename for Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 and pretty much confirms the existence of this chipset. Its significance is because Qualcomm is expected to use custom Oryon cores for the first time in its smartphone silicon range, and according to a company executive, the announcement will happen in October.

A fun fact about the SoC is that it will be Qualcomm’s first to be mass produced on TSMC’s 3nm ‘N3E’ process, so we should expect some efficiency improvements compared to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3.
