This morning, Japanese developer and publisher KONAMI announced that the Silent Hill 2 remake surpassed 5 million players as of January 31, 2026.
As you probably guessed right away, the figure counts not only retail and digital sales but also players who accessed the game through subscription services. The game joined Sony's PlayStation Plus subscription at the Extra tier on October 15, 2025. Two days later, KONAMI communicated that the Silent Hill 2 remake had sold more than 2.5 million units, bringing the series total to over 10 million copies.
The following month, KONAMI also launched the game on Xbox Series S and X with a 50% launch discount, which certainly helped sales a bit (although the vast majority of those five million players are likely coming from the PlayStation platform). As for PC, Steam data estimates based on SteamDB suggest it might have sold between 1 and 1.5 million units on Valve's platform. It's also available on the Epic Games Store, but Epic doesn't disclose data the same way, so it's hard to gauge how many copies it sold there.
It was certainly a success among critics and fans, despite the pre-release reservations from both categories about the developer, Bloober Team. Here on Wccftech, reviewer Chris Wray rated it 9 out of 10:
Silent Hill 2 is the best game Bloober Team has made. A faithful reimagining of the original, bringing it to the modern day without losing what made the original the best horror game ever, using modern game mechanics to improve where they could, and expanding on what was already an engrossing world. Without any shadow of a doubt, a resounding success, one that will likely come as a surprise to many.
Following this level of performance, KONAMI has struck a new deal with Bloober Team to remake the first Silent Hill, too.
The Japanese publisher is enjoying a good run with remakes of its most acclaimed games. Just yesterday, they boasted a new sales milestone (two million units) for Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater.
