One UI 6.1 Launched for A54 and A34

With the release of One UI 6.1 for its premium Galaxy S lineup, Samsung has now initiated the update for its budget-friendly Galaxy A54 and A34 devices. The update for Samsung’s high-end models was available in Europe, South Korea, and the U.S. While the company has started rolling out the update to its mid-range devices in South Korea, it will soon be extended to other regions and countries.

One UI 6.1 was released for Samsung’s Galaxy A54 AND A34, but there is a flip side: No AI

SamMobile has mentioned that Samsung has already released the One UI 6.1 update to the Galaxy A34 and the Galaxy A54 in specific regions. This release comes after the update was made available for the Galaxy S21, S22, Flip 4, Fold 4, and all newer models earlier this month. The update comes with the following build numbers: A546SKSU4CXDC, A546SSKC4CXDC, or A546SKSU4CXD1.

While there is no update on whether Samsung will release a separate security patch, it is currently using the April 2024 patch instead of the latest May update. You can check if the update is available in your country through the Settings app.

Users have been demanding the One UI 6.1 update for a while, and the company stayed true to its promise, but the delivery comes with a catch. Though the update houses new changes for the mid-range Galaxy-branded smartphones, it lacks the AI element. There are no details available on the company’s plans to incorporate on-device or cloud-based AI features into the Galaxy A lineup. Even Google’s ‘Circle to Search’ would not be brought forward, marking a clear distinction between features only reserved for its flagship devices.

Apart from AI, Samsung has introduced other advanced features to the budget Galaxy A series of devices. Some of the features include image editing tweaks, such as clipping, copying, searching, and video editing or sharing the edits with other Galaxy devices. Other additional features include new lock screen widgets, battery protection, depth-of-field effects for wallpapers, and more customized calendar settings.

Through Samsung Health, you can now choose to set varied daily targets, track past records, and even add mood or physical symptoms. While upgraded features would now be available for the Galaxy A series, the devices are being robbed of AI capabilities. However, we are not certain if the absence of AI features is a hardware limitation or if the company plans to create a gap between the budget and the flagship devices.
