The myriad of complexities involved in making Samsung’s first tri-fold smartphone, the Galaxy G Fold, is what could make the device one of the most expensive from the company. Like the Huawei Mate XT, its upcoming competitor will not just be mass produced in fewer quantities, but it will also be sold in a handful of regions, according to the latest rumor. Sadly, with these reasons combined, the Galaxy G Fold could fetch an abnormally high price, with the details discussed below.

The tri-fold Galaxy G Fold is rumored to witness a launch in Q3, with its price possibly touching the $3,000 to $3,500 range

The latest rumor was posted by @heyitsyogesh on X, discussing the potential launch period of Samsung’s tri-fold smartphone. When completely unfolded, the Galaxy G Fold is said to flaunt a 9.96-inch display size and can be configured in various form factors depending on the person’s requirements. Previously, it was mentioned that Samsung would announce this device alongside its other foldable smartphone family, but that might not be the case as the tri-fold handset deserves an individual unveiling.

The two markets mentioned above will be South Korea and China. Launching the Galaxy G Fold on Samsung’s home turf makes complete sense as it will reinvigorate the consumer’s interest thanks to a device boasting an entirely new form factor, and also show that Samsung is prioritizing its customers. As for a release in China, this region is the largest smartphone market by volume and is also the Huawei Mate XT’s stronghold. The Galaxy G Fold’s release can generate some sales traction.

However, it might not be as simple as we are making it out to be because the rumor claims that due to the tri-fold smartphone’s limited launch, its price could be in the $3,000 to $3,500 range. Of course, Samsung will attempt to reduce the cost as much as possible by using a similar hinge mechanism and other parts consistent with the upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 7. Sadly, this approach might be insufficient when massively reducing the device’s price, meaning it will still cost a decent chunk of change for the masses.
