While the hype has been around Apple's latest iPhone 17 series, Samsung is gearing up for its next flagship lineup, the Galaxy S26 series. Many speculations have emerged giving quite a few details about the upcoming models, the latest leak that is doing the rounds might disappoint many of the users given how the South Korean tech giant is focused on bringing forward the most controversial design yet.
Samsung Galaxy S26 leak sparks backlash over "ugly" design
According to a new leaked image, Samsung's upcoming Galaxy S26 series might sport a design many users call the most polarizing in years. The main issue with the appearance is the rear camera bump. The Galaxy S26 Ultra specifically is the one drawing criticism for the less refined and bulkier look compared to its predecessor.
Although Samsung has been recognized in the tech community for quite some time for its minimalistic focus and sleek design, with the S26 Ultra, the company seems to be stepping in a different direction. The layout makes the back of the phone appear functional; it seems to lean more towards utility than a premium or high-end look. This change could be a letdown given how S26 Ultra buyers generally go for the model for its refined design that adds to the premium touch.
Samsung's next flagship lineup puts performance in perspective rather than mainly achieving the look. The report also suggests that the S26 Ultra will have a wider aperture for its primary camera, which would be especially useful in low-light conditions. Since the goal is to deliver better results, it could prove to be practically more refined than the mere focus on what looks good and appears high-end.
The tech giant would be maintaining a different approach across its lineup, with Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 2 chip offering top-tier performance for the S26 Ultra model. Other models might be using the in-house Exynos processor or Snapdragon. Users have frequently shared their frustration with the lack of consistency in the chipsets across its ecosystem. Nonetheless, the Ultra model is expected to be equipped with the best hardware. While there are renders that do not necessarily reflect the final product, they should be taken with a grain of salt until Samsung officially confirms it.
Nonetheless, even if Samsung does decide to go with this design choice, it would highlight how the tech giant is focused on delivering functionality rather than the shape of the camera bump, which would not matter more than the device's experience.
