A floating black square with 'SAMSUNG DDR5' text appears over a backdrop of Earth viewed from space, with digital light connections spreading across the globe.

The increase in memory prices reflects the price hike in memory chips made by Samsung, and both DDR4 and DDR5 have been reportedly affected.

Samsung Reportedly Raises DDR4 and DDR5 Memory Chip Prices as Retail Memory Modules are Now Up By 10-19%

Once again, we are witnessing a noticeable hike in the prices of memory modules. The ongoing RAMpocalypse is continuously fueling the DRAM prices, affecting electronic devices worldwide. The never-ending RAMpocalypse seems to have caused another hike in memory prices, as spotted on the Danawa.

Danawa, which tracks the prices of consumer products sold by retailers have shown a noticeable rise in prices for both DDR4 and DDR5 modules. This is specifically about Samsung-based DDR4 and DDR5 memory modules that have seen a sharp rise in the last month. User @harukaze5719 has spotted the changes in the price trends of 16 GB memory modules on the platform, which reveal that DDR4 is now seeing a sharper rise in price than DDR5 modules.

As per the price history for 16 GB DDR4 memory modules based on Samsung chips, the price has inflated by a whopping 19% in a single month. It's unclear whether the graph reflects the price trend for a single 16 GB DDR4 module or multiple models, but the result is shocking. Unlike DDR5 memory, DDR4 usually doesn't see a rapid price hike, but this time, it's the other way around.

The lowest price for the 16 GB DDR4 memory module last month was 162,000 Korean Won, which translates to around US$105.70, but it's now sitting at nearly 193,130 Won or US$126. This price hike is sharper than the 16 GB DDR5 memory module, which got a slight hike of around 33,100 Won or US$21.60. It's a 10% price increase in a single month, which is still significant.

It looks like both DDR4 and DDR5 memories are about to get even more expensive, as we have previously reported. This will be particularly true for DDR4 modules as Intel and its partners ramp up the production of DDR4 platforms. Intel isn't just looking to restart the production of 10th-14th gen processors, but is bringing Raptor Lake NEXT to fulfill the demands. Vendors are now collaborating with Intel to bring DDR4-compatible motherboards in abundance, which should fuel DDR4 prices even further.
