Samsung chairman orders to open up investigation against company for copying Apple's design

The Galaxy Buds 3, Galaxy Buds 3 Pro and the Galaxy Watch Ultra were recently unveiled by Samsung, but various media outlets and individuals were quick to point out that the company had taken ‘inspiration’ from Apple regarding their design. Now, word has reportedly reached Samsung’s Chairman Jay Y. Lee, who has ordered a thorough investigation into the MX Division for allegedly copying the aesthetics of its competitor’s products.

Samsung’s Chairman stepped in after reports of design plagiarism and quality issues started spiking, an industry official has stated that the internal atmosphere is 'very bad'

A report from AjuNews that was spotted by X user @lafaiel states that a Samsung Electronics insider has mentioned growing tensions within the company’s MX Division, also known as mobile experience. Even though this segment has witnessed growth in the previous two-quarters thanks to Samsung pushing its generative AI features under the Galaxy AI banner, the Korean giant has been under heavy fire regarding the quality control issues surrounding the Galaxy Buds 3 Pro. Even if there were no production problems surrounding the wireless earbuds, Samsung’s Chairman has caught wind of design plagiarism from the technology giant’s mobile arm.

It is one thing to use Apple’s design aesthetics for inspiration purposes to create a slightly altered product and another to knock it off completely, and in the eyes of Jay Y. Lee, this was completely unacceptable. The Samsung Electronics insider mentioned growing tensions within the MX Division, and when asked why, he stated that the Chairman has stepped in after the controversy that surrounded the Galaxy Buds 3 and Galaxy Watch 7 lineup. The insider also mentioned that the internal atmosphere is ‘very bad,’ hinting that multiple employees could be under investigation for failing to use original and creative ideas for their products.

The exact repercussions are not mentioned in the report, but knowing how brutal the technology industry can be, Chairman Jay Y. Lee may force Samsung’s MX Division head TM Roh to replace the current employees with new talent that will invest tons of effort in designing products that look strikingly different from the competition.
