Amid persistent reports that Samsung has ended the production of the Galaxy Z TriFold just three months after launch, we are now getting tidbits that the concept of the Galaxy Z TriFold 2 has been approved, replete with a mid-2027 targeted launch date.

Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold 2 to come with a better build and a more refined hinge, might launch by mid-2027

According to the tipster Yeux1122, Samsung has already approved a more refined hinge for the Galaxy Z TriFold 2. Apparently, the hinge mechanism would be lightweight and ultra-thin. What's more, the South Korean behemoth is also attempting to further reduce the thickness of its next-gen triple-folding smartphone, with mid-2027 currently being targeted as a viable launch window.

Interestingly, the tipster also talks about another foldable, whose display would be extendable via a mechanical sliding mechanism. Samsung is apparently targeting a launch window of late 2027 or early 2028 for this phone.

Meanwhile, we reported recently that Samsung has apparently halted the production of the Galaxy Z TriFold just three months after launch. While the South Korean behemoth always expected a short run for the device, a three-month life appears too extreme to have been prompted by typical economics. It seems Samsung can no longer afford to expend precious memory and AP resources on a product that already entailed little to no margins.

Do note that Samsung Mobile has declared an all-out emergency in the face of shrinking margins, spurred by the absolute refusal of the behemoth's memory unit to provide memory chips on concessionary terms. To compensate, Samsung Mobile has barred all executives below the rank of a VP from travelling on business class tickets for trips carrying less than 10 hours of boarding time, and is resorting to voluntary retirements to curtail overall overheads by as much as 30 percent.

To further cut down operating costs, Samsung Mobile has also decided to source 15 million cheaper OLED panels, primarily for the Galaxy S26 FE and the Galaxy A57, from China Star Optoelectronics Technology (CSOT) instead of Samsung Display.
