New DDR5 overclocking records are moving closer to the 13,000 MT/s mark, but it is going to take a lot of time. With the new world record, we are close to 12,900 MT/s, which could possibly be achieved with the next world record.
Overclocker Pushes CORSAIR DDR5 Memory to 12886 MT/s on ASRock Z890 Taichi OCF, Making a New World Record
Nearly 20 days later, we have another new world record for the highest DDR5 memory speed. After Bl4ckdot achieved 12,872 MT/s using his G.Skill Trident Z5 memory, professional overclocker "saltycroissant" is once again at the top by achieving a staggering 12,886 MT/s of memory speed. This isn't the first time saltycroissant has climbed to the top, but these overclockers usually go back and forth every month or so to claim the number one spot.
By using a single-channel 24 GB CORSAIR Vengeance DDR5 memory, the overclocker achieved a memory frequency of 6443.1 MHz or 12,886 MT/s speed on ASRock's flagship motherboard, the Z890 Taichi OCF paired with the Intel Core Ultra 7 265K. This motherboard has been used multiple times for breaking memory records previously, and there is no question of its extraordinary overclocking capability.
The latency (CL68-127-127-127-2) seems to be unchanged with the new speed, and it's likely because there isn't a major difference between the clock speeds seen in previous and the current world record. The difference is merely 14 MT/s, which on paper looks pretty small, but in reality, it's much harder to go from 12,872 MT/s to 12,886 MT/s than from 11,000 MT/s to 12,000 MT/s. A lot of tweaking goes behind the scenes, and this is usually done by deploying Nitrogen cooling to keep the memory temperature low.
The frequency of new world records has dropped significantly, as previously, we used to see new memory world records every week or so. It's likely going to drop even further in the coming months since the Z890 platform and DDR5 have almost hit the ceiling. However, there is a possibility of seeing 13,000 MT/s speed in the near future as enthusiast overclockers like saltycroissant, seby, bl4ckdot, and others try to claim the number one spot relentlessly.
