The MSI MPG Z890 CARBON WIFI is the second MPG series motherboard that we tested under the Z890 segment. This option provides extended capabilities over the EDGE TI WIFI with better VRMs, more IO capabilities and the same rock-solid design that you can expect from a premium board.
The MPG Carbon offers great performance, both for the CPU and the memory with up to 9200 MT/s speeds supported and a 20-Phase VRM with 110A power stages dedicated to the CPU alone. The motherboard is a no-compromise solution for gamers. The Frozr heatsinks do a great job of keeping the VRMs, the M.2, and the Z890 PCH cool. The EZ release mechanisms for the M.2 slots are also great for DIY builders while the EZ PCIe release for the first Gen5 x16 slot is also a nice addition by MSI.
IO on the motherboard includes 20 USB ports including a Type-C on the front which supports 27W power delivery and two Thunderbolt 4 ports. There's also WIFI7 and dual 2.5/5.0 GbE LAN plus there are five M.2 slots which include a single Gen5 x4 and four Gen4 x4 slots. MSI also offers an additional 8-pin power source to provide juice to the PCIe slots which is better for future-proofing when the next-gen GPUs hit the market.
