Colorful GeForce RTX 4070 Ti SUPER BattleAx 16 GB Graphics Card Review: More VRAM, Same Price

Conclusion - 16 GB & Massive Cooling At MSRP

The NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 Ti SUPER launches at $799 US and retains its enthusiast positioning but comes with a lot of changes for the underlying GPU. From the performance that we have just gathered, it looks like the 4070 Ti SUPER is a fine replacement for the original card which received some backlash on how it was positioned. From the unlaunching of the $899 RTX 4080 12 GB to the relaunch as the $799 US RTX 4070 Ti, the SUPER series tries to fix some of the complaints that this SKU had.

A Neck-To-Neck Match In Rasterized Titles Between The 4070 Ti SUPER & RX 7900 XT

NVIDIA's GeForce RTX 4070 Ti SUPER delivers an average improvement of 11% in rasterized titles, going up to 15% in a few cases when at higher resolutions thanks to its 16 GB GDDR6X memory & can be seen as a free performance uplift at the same price point. However, out of the 18 titles we tested in standard rasterization, the 4070 Ti SUPER only came out ahead in 8 titles with the 7900 XT leading in the rest of the 10 games. The difference between the 7900 XT and 4070 Ti SUPER was very minimal in a few games and the Ti SUPER does manage to pull up where the older 4070 Ti fell short but the 7900 XT remains a strong contender if you are going for the vanilla look in your AAA gaming experiences.

Also, for those who were expecting the 4070 Ti SUPER to close in on the higher-end RTX 4080 Non-SUPER, well you might be a bit disappointed. It does get close to the 4080 but the 4080 still offers 10-15% higher performance so there's still some value going that route. Plus the 4080 SUPER will be $200 US cheaper than the original 4080 so there's more value there too.

Ada Reigns Supreme In Ray-Tracing

There's no doubt that 2024 is going to be another great year for ray traced games and NVIDIA has already proven with its third-generation RT architecture that it is the king of the hill. As expected, the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 Ti SUPER dominates the ray-tracing charts, leading over the RX 7900 XT in all of the titles we tested. The GPU is superb for the performance at the offer and is more future-proof considering that ray-tracing is now the standard for graphics fidelity. The card also offers a great performance bump in path-traced titles such as Cyberpunk 2077 and Alan Wake 2 over the Non-SUPER variants.

Ray tracing has come a long way, from the time that 30-60 FPS were the target to the now 60/100 FPS+ frame rates that can be achieved using AI upscaling technologies such as DLSS 3. The NVIDIA RTX 4070 To SUPER leads the way, delivering some fantastic performance in ray-traced titles, letting you enjoy true next-gen visuals at 1440P and even 4K with upscaling technologies plus Frame-Gen.

Sub-300W Performance For A Card That Knocks Out The RTX 3090 Ti

The NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 Ti SUPER is a very strong graphics card with an incredibly efficient GPU. We hardly saw the card running above 240-250W while gaming and at the same time, it was offering us performance a good bit ahead of the RTX 3090 Ti, the last-gen flagship. To get faster performance than an RTX 3090 Ti and sitting at half the power usage is superb and once again shows the strong technical aspects of the Ada Lovelace architecture.

Colorful's MSRP Model Looks & Feels Premium, Solid Cooling Performance

While the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 Ti SUPER has no Founders Edition model, there will be plenty of custom models priced at the $799 US MSRP. We were sent an MSRP model from Colorful which is their BattleAx variant. This graphics card is a triple-slot and triple-fan juggernaut that resembles a rectangular tank.

Featuring three fans and a huge heatsink, this card never went above 70C & ran in the cool mid-60s range while peaking at 66C which is very good. The RGB-lit side logo and the red accent plates look great and if you have the chassis to accommodate this monster, I'd fully recommend it as a great MSRP choice.

Tackling A Very Heated Price Segment But Ultimately Comes Out As A Strong Contender

When the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 Ti SUPER was announced, the graphics card was priced at $799 US and felt like a great combatant against the $849 US RX 7900 XT from AMD. However, the market dynamics have changed and AMD has since announced a $100 US price cut for their card which is selling for $749 US now. That's $50 US less than the 4070 Ti SUPER and offers 20 GB VRAM (vs the 16 GB) and very good rasterized gaming performance.

The pricing of both cards is very competitive, with one offering more VRAM and better-rasterized performance while the other leads in a range of aspects such as ray-tracing performance, and efficiency and also running very cool. NVIDIA's DLSS 3 has the edge over FSR 3 with more games supported and the rasterization performance is, like I said, a neck-to-neck competition.

A bit more L3 cache and faster GDDR6X memory would've made the 4070 Ti SUPER an even stronger contender in this price range but we have to stick with what we are getting and for $799 US, the RTX 4070 Ti is a performance bump for the original card that should've been there since the start. It's a great card with loads of performance that will let you crank up those graphical settings at 1440p while the 16 GB VRAM provides ample room for 4K gaming.
