While late to the party, Google is finally rolling out the Repair Mode to all supported Pixel devices. For those who don't know, this works a lot like Maintenance Mode does on Galaxy phones, where all your data is stored away when you are getting your phone fixed and can only be accessed once you exit the mode.
Repair Mode on Pixel devices will give you added peace of mind when you send in your device for repairs
Now, the Repair Mode has been a part of the Pixel ecosystem for some time, but it is finally rolling out to a larger audience. It is an effective feature that has simple functionality. When you are handling your device for repair, you simply have to enter this mode, and all your data will be protected. This will allow the technician to do their job without you constantly worrying that your data might be at risk of being exposed.
On a Google Pixel device, if you want to activate Repair Mode, you would need at least 2 gigs of free storage space, alongside a lock screen code, PIN, password, and/or a pattern. If you want to activate Repair Mode, all you have to do is head over to Settings > System > Repair Mode and then tap "Enter Repair Mode." Google has mentioned that the device will restart once you enter this mode.
As expected, this mode is only available on the currently supported devices. So, if you have older Pixel devices, they will not support Repair Mode. You can check below to see which Pixel devices are supported:
- Pixel 8 Pro
- Pixel 8
- Pixel Fold
- Pixel 7a
- Pixel 7 Pro
- Pixel 7
- Pixel 6a
- Pixel 6 Pro
- Pixel 6
For those wondering, Repair Mode is coming to the supported Pixel devices as a part of the December Feature Drop. So, if you have not received the update yet, you should go ahead and update your devices, and you will finally have access to it. I believe it is great of Google to introduce this feature as it would allow for additional peace of mind whenever you are getting your device repaired.
