This morning, Finnish developer Remedy Entertainment posted its Q1 2026 financial report, which revealed, among other things, a new sales milestone for CONTROL: 6 million units sold. The year's first quarter was profitable but slightly down year over year, with revenue falling 1.9% to €13.1 million, though EBITDA (earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization) actually improved to €2.9 million from €2.6 million.
The more notable shift is in the revenue mix: game sales and royalties nearly doubled to €5.0 million (from €2.6 million in Q1 2025), while development fees fell from €10.7 million to €8.2 million as CONTROL Resonant nears completion. Cash flow from operations swung dramatically positive to €8.3 million versus -€6.6 million in the same period last year. The company's cash and liquid investments stand at €34 million, up from €28 million a year ago. Net cash is reported at €15.9 million. The balance sheet still carries €14.9 million in convertible bond liabilities from a Tencent agreement signed in September 2024.
The report was penned by the new Remedy CEO, Jean-Charles Gaudechon, who replaced Tero Virtala earlier this year. Gaudechon was highly confident when it came to the imminent release of CONTROL Resonant, even going as far as endorsing it personally:
We remain committed to our goal of making the game a ‘must-have day-one purchase’ for the fans of Control and for gamers worldwide. A lot of interest was captured in connection with our December 2025 announcement, and we expect the momentum to intensify leading up to the launch. Leading indicators are on track for us to reach this goal. I play the game regularly; the gameplay and overall feel are coming together, and I am confident we have a strong product at hand.
Remedy has three projects in the works: CONTROL Resonant, which is out this year; Max Payne, which is in full production; and an unannounced project currently in the conceptual stage.
The document reiterates two goals: double 2024 revenue by 2027 and hit an EBITDA margin of 30% by 2027, maintaining that minimum thereafter. Given that 2024 revenue was approximately €50.7 million, the 2027 target implies annual revenue of roughly €100 million. To help achieve this ambitious goal, Remedy is actively expanding into new markets, launching social media marketing campaigns in China, and working with local partners across Asian markets. CONTROL Resonant supports 8 audio languages, including Chinese and Brazilian Portuguese as new additions, making it the most localized Remedy game to date. The developer even appeared at Gamescom Latam in São Paulo a few days ago with a new developer diary.
CONTROL Resonant doesn't have a precise release date yet, but it will likely launch this Fall on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series S and X. According to Remedy, the game benefited from the studio's largest-ever gameplay team.
