Sony has been keeping relatively quiet this year, no-showing E3 and holding back on new details about anticipated games like The Last of Us Part II and Ghost of Tsushima. Thankfully, if a new round of rumors are to be believed, some pretty big Sony announcements are slated for the coming months.
Now, before we go on, it should be stated that these rumors came from 4chan, and thus should be taken with a pretty hearty dash of salt. That said, these rumors all sound plausible enough, and 4chan does get it right more often than some would like to admit, so judge for yourself. 4chan poster esTowj claims to have been privy to internal planning emails from the PlayStation PR team, which contain information about the company’s next State of Play show and the reveal of the PS5.
Word is, the next State of Play will drop on November 1 and focus on three games – Death Stranding, Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, and The Last of Us Part II. Apparently, the show will reveal a final launch trailer for Death Stranding and a May 20, 2020 release date for The Last of Us Part II. Ghost of Tsushima won’t be featured in the next State of Play, as the game has reportedly been pushed back so it can be polished up for a cross-gen PlayStation 5 release.
Speaking of the PS5, the same 4chan leaker also claims a new PlayStation Meeting event is planned for February 12, 2020. Sony will reportedly be unveiling the PlayStation 5 at the event, with publishers like Activision, Ubisoft, and EA already receiving invites to show off their next-gen wares. Sony revealing the PS5 in the middle of February would be a somewhat atypical move, but with a late 2020 release rumored, they have to show off the machine sometime!
Again, don’t stake your life on these rumors, but they’re certainly fun to speculate about. What do you think? Do they seem plausible? Personally, I’m crossing my fingers that The Last of Us Part II release date is the real deal!
