Google’s Pixel smartphones typically start to show some visible wear and tear after a couple of years of use, indicating that some polishing is still required to improve the build quality. Unfortunately, when you have literal parts slowly separating themselves from the chassis, that is when there is a real problem, especially when the smartphone in question is not even that old. One Pixel 9 Pro owner shows that the rear camera bump is coming off and claims that the flagship has been used with a case ever since its inception.
Owner does hint that the Pixel 9 Pro has had a few encounters with water, which might have softened the adhesive keeping the camera bump held in place
On Reddit, an individual who goes by the handle ‘lakhip’ posted an image of the Pixel 9 Pro, with a close-up showing that one side of the rear camera bump was starting to come off. He mentions below that the smartphone had been in the case since the device was being used, but when the camera lenses started developing fog, he left it in the sink and went to take a shower.
“Literally had it in a case since day one and noticed the camera lenses fogged up after leaving it on the sink while showering. Never had this happen in 2 years with the 7 pro so I took the case off and took a look and one side of the camera bar was not attached at all, just lifted right up with a gentle pull.
Literally no abuse, drops or rough behavior. The 7 pro camera design seemed more flush with the rest of the phone - here it clearly a separate attached to the body. It’s a shame because I love everything else about the 9 pro, but basic water resistance is huge for me. I've even taken the 7 pro in the pool and it’s been perfect. But even if mine is just defective, I don’t have faith now that it won't happen again with a replacement.”

Now, while he claims that the Pixel 7 Pro was used in more dangerous circumstances, he does have a habit of taking his devices near water sources, which would also include the Pixel 9 Pro. While the following cannot be confirmed, it is possible that the water may have caused the adhesive to loosen up from the inside, causing the rear camera bump to slowly separate itself from the rest of the body.
Of course, it goes without saying users should handle their handsets more responsibly, but Google is no stranger to these instances either, as various owners have previously mentioned that their Pixel 9 units were showing similar problems.
