Phison controller-based SSDs appear to have been affected by the latest cumulative update, and the company is working to identify the issue and resolve it.
Phison Says It Is Working With Partners To Resolve the SSD Failures As a Result of Windows 11 Security Updates and Will Provide Them Updates and Advisories
The recent Windows 11 cumulative updates, KB5063878 and KB5062660, have reportedly caused SSD failures when writing large numbers of files. We reported on this issue two days ago, highlighting the issue and the affected SSDs and controllers. Phison is one of those that got its PS5012-E12 controller affected by the latest security updates, causing abnormal functioning of SSDs using it.
Most cases were reported by Japanese users, and the numerous SSD models have been reported facing such failures, such as Corsair Force MP600, SanDisk Extreme Pro, Maxio SSD, and many more. As of now, Phison is the only one to respond, and has acknowledged the problem faced by users who are running a Phison controller-based SSD, particularly the PS5012-E12.
Phison has recently been made aware of the industry-wide effects of the 'KB5063878' and ‘KB5062660’ updates on Windows 11 that potentially impacted several storage devices, including some supported by Phison. We understand the disruption this may have caused and promptly engaged industry stakeholders.
We are steadfast in our commitment to product integrity and the success of our partners and end users. At this time, the controllers that may have been affected are under review and we are working with partners. We will continue to provide updates and advisories to partners who may have been impacted to provide support and ensure any applicable remediation.

Phison states that they are currently investigating which controller models are actually affected by the issue and are likely testing and collecting crash/failure reports from the SSD brands that use the Phison controllers. It's unlikely that Phison will directly offer support to the public, as its focus will be to deliver the firmware updates and advisories to its partners.
In short, Phison did acknowledge the problem, but it will take its time to resolve the issue and will provide the update through its partners. We will wait for more updates, but in the meantime, we advise users not to perform large write operations on the SSDs if their drives are in the list of affected devices.
