We've already gotten a glimpse of Fable's cinematics in the trailers released during development, especially when British actor Richard Ayoade was first introduced as being part of the game. The cinematics looked extremely well crafted, and now there's a solid explanation for that.

Speaking on the latest Official Xbox Podcast, Xbox's Chief Content Officer Matt Booty has revealed that the Blizzard Cinematics team is helping out with that specific aspect of the Fable reboot. This is just one of several collaborations that have emerged between Microsoft's many internal development teams.

We've really seen a lot, once we build those connections, of teams starting to share things with each other. Our team in Vancouver, The Coalition, they are really our center of excellence for Unreal Engine work, and that is benefiting the teams, for example, at Bryan Fargo's studio in Exile, working on Clockwork Revolution. They're able to benefit from all of the really technical work that they're doing up at The Coalition. There are other examples. We've got the Blizzard Cinematics team helping out on Fable. We've got our studio in Montreal, Compulsion Games, using the Activision MoCap studio. We've got, I think, the team at Rare, a lot of multiplayer experience working on Sea of Thieves, helping out Double Fine on Kiln, the pottery game. There's a lot of examples of that.

Now, whatever you may think of Blizzard's games, their cinematics are second to none in the industry. They've previously won several awards, from the days of Diablo III to the various World of Warcraft cinematics for the base game and its many expansions. Perhaps their two best-known cinematics are the stunning Wrath of the Lich King intro and the Arthas death film.

Of course, cinematics aren't the most important part of a game, but it's still reassuring to know the Fable team is getting help from some of the industry's best. The game itself is currently slated to launch in Autumn 2026 for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series S and X. However, a few days ago, a rumor emerged suggesting that it might be delayed to 2027 to avoid clashing with Rockstar's Grand Theft Auto 6.
