With Optiscaler, gamers can now replace various upscaling technologies with the latest AMD FSR 4 for faster performance and improved image quality.

Games That Don't Yet Officially Support FSR 4 Can Be Enhanced Through Optiscaler's Upgraded Version But You Will Still Need RX 9000 GPUs to do That

AMD's FSR 4 brought significant improvements in visual quality in games, reduced artifacts and shimmering, and increased stability. However, the technology depends on two requirements: number one is that you will need an RX 9000 GPU from the RDNA 4 series, and number two is that you need official support for FSR 4 in games, which is integrated by developers.

Since there aren't many games that support FSR 4 technology (close to 60), you will still be limited to older or outdated upscaling methods in most games. Surely, many games support upscaling technologies, but you can't just replace them on your own. There is still a way through which you can do it, such as utilizing a tool like Optiscaler, which is a popular software that can replace any upscaling technique like DLSS, XeSS, FSR, etc., with newer and better versions.

Up until now, it only offered up to FSR 3.1 support but has recently added FSR 4 compatibility, which means you can replace the games' built-in upscaling technology with a much more mature upscaling method from AMD for higher performance and visual quality. As seen in the released notes, the latest version of Optiscaler has added FSR 4, but there are a few conditions.

The number one requirement is the presence of RDNA 4 GPUs, meaning you will need the Radeon RX 9000 GPUs, such as RX 9060 and RX 9070 series. The second thing to keep in mind is that it won't work in Vulkan-based titles yet. Nonetheless, many non-Vulkan games currently run using previous DLSS and FSR versions, and, they won't just improve in performance or visual quality even if you own an RX 9000 GPU out of the box. With the latest Optiscaler tool, you will be able to replace those with FSR 4, which acts as a middleware tool. By redirecting to whichever upscaler the user wants, the Optiscaler can swap the native upscaling method to the required one.
