NVIDIA To Discontinue GeForce RTX 3060 GPUs Soon As Production Dries Out, Still The Most Popular GPU On Steam 1

NVIDIA is reportedly going to recommence production of its GeForce RTX 3060 GPUs owing to DRAM shortages.

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 GPUs Might Soon Make A Return On Retail Shelves As DRAM Shortages Hamper Current-Gen Supply

NVIDIA started to discontinue its GeForce RTX 3060 GPUs back in 2024. The original lineup, which was introduced back in 2021, is still the most popular gaming graphics card on Steam, and while the 4060 & 5060 are picking up the pace, it looks like NVIDIA might once again open up production lines for this GPU.

The new report comes from @hongxing2020, who has a solid track record with NVIDIA GPU updates and production plans. The user states that, as per the latest update on 5th January, NVIDIA has updated its partners that the RTX 3060 is coming back in Q1 2026. There's no detail on whether both the 12 GB / 8 GB models or one of those will be produced, but the RTX 3060 is going to be made available on retail shelves once again.

This indicates the extent to which the DRAM shortages have affected consumer GPUs. The GeForce RTX 5060 makes use of GDDR7 memory, and as DRAM costs rise, the RTX 5060 might not only be affected in terms of pricing but also in supply, since procuring the memory is also an issue due to poor supply. The 60-series product family is made for mass consumption, so NVIDIA will have to offer some alternative to its partners.

NVIDIA's GeForce RTX 3060 came in both 12 GB (192-bit) and 8 GB (128-bit) variants. The 12 GB variant was decent, but the company faced backlash with the 128-bit 8 GB model. If NVIDIA were to reintroduce the RTX 3060, they should be doing so at an attractive price point of below $200 US, since only then would it make sense to gamers.
