NVIDIA is preparing another "D" variant, the RTX 5090D, for China, which will be the region's flagship GeForce RTX 50 series graphics card.
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5090D "Blackwell" Being Prepped As Flagship Gaming GPU For China, Launches In Early 2025
Last year, we reported in our exclusive that NVIDIA was preparing an export-compliant flagship GPU for China to serve the needs of enthusiast gamers. This graphics card was confirmed as the GeForce RTX 4090D and launched at the end of 2023 followed by availability in Q1 2024. Now, it looks like NVIDIA is preparing a new flagship graphics card under its next-gen GeForce RTX 50 GPU family for China.

The rumor comes from @hongxing2020 who has posted that NVIDIA's next-gen 90D graphics card will be ready for launch in early 2025. January is mentioned as the release date though we can't say for sure if this will be the announcement or the retail launch. This also suggests that NVIDIA might have the standard GeForce RTX 50 "Blackwell" Gaming GPUs out by January 2025. A lot remains to be seen but Chinese gamers should be relieved from learning that they are getting the enthusiast treatment with Blackwell too.
The "D" series GPUs from NVIDIA are rated at a TPP (Total Processing Power) below 4800 points. The original RTX 4090 was above this limit hence NVIDIA stopped shipping the graphics card to Chinese partners and instead gave them a new GPU to work with in the form of the RTX 4090D. NVIDIA's GeForce RTX 4090D featured cut-down specifications but came within 90-95% graphics performance of the original model. The cut-down nature brought the TPP below 4800, making it compliant with the US export regulations for China.
Given that the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5090 GPU is looking to be a major leap in performance, we can expect the RTX 5090D China variant to be further cut down to meet the TPP requirements. As for pricing, it looks like the RTX 5090D would match the pricing of the RTX 5090 since that's also the case with the existing RTX 4090D which matches the pricing of the RTX 4090 graphics card. The first of the new GeForce RTX 50 "Blackwell" Gaming GPUs are expected to be introduced later this year so stay tuned for more information.
