NVIDIA's GeForce RTX 5090 Founders Edition GPU is now priced almost twice its MSRP, jumping to $3695 US at Newegg.

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5090 Founders Edition Hits $3695 US At Newegg, Most Models Priced Above $3000 US & Up To $5000 Already

Yesterday, we reported that NVIDIA's GeForce RTX 5090 GPUs were going to soar to $5000 US due to the ongoing memory shortages. The shortages affect both NVIDIA and AMD consumer lineups, as well as the data center products. But while Data Center demand is the primary reason for the ongoing shortages, it's also affecting consumer GPUs, which have had no role in the current crisis. This leaves gamers in a really bad state, especially those who were planning to upgrade their GPUs or PCs in 2026.

But something interesting has happened in the last 24 hours: it looks like NVIDIA and its partners have already started hiking up the prices of GPUs. The story yesterday was about the RTX 5090, and in a post by NikiTek, we can see that Newegg had the Founders Edition model listed at $3499 US. This tweet is from 9 hours ago, but we just checked the pricing at Newegg, and it looks like there's been another price increase.

As of right now, the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5090 Founders Edition GPU is priced at $3695 US, a $195 US increase, and almost double the original MSRP of the GPU, which was set at $1999. Now there are more expensive FE 5090s listed at Newegg, but this pricing in particular is for the model listed at the official NVIDIA brand store.

A few months ago, we had a few GeForce RTX 5090 models hitting price points at the same levels of its MSRP around $2000 US, but all of those models are currently "Out of Stock". The only models that are available right now are priced above $3000 US and are even hitting close to $5000 US.

The ASUS Dhahab RTX 5090 is an exception since it was priced at $6990 before and still retains that price due to its limited nature and the use of actual gold worth almost $700 US, but the other models being priced at $4500-$4800 US seem to be becoming the norm.

The NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5090 Founders Edition GPU is not listed on the official NVIDIA Store, but that doesn't means its discontinued. We have confirmed with NVIDIA that the listing of the FE model is based on the availability, which is on and off due to the limited nature of the FE design. Also, it's interesting that most RTX 5090s listed at Newegg are being shipped from China, which would suggest that local stock is more or less extinguished.

The same is the story at other retailers such as BestBuy where the FE model is out of stock, at Walmart, the same card is listed for $3149 US, while Microcenter seems to be the only one still offering MSRP RTX 5090 models, though these are only available for in-stock pickups. Currently, this post only covers the RTX 5090, but we will make sure to give you an insight into other NVIDIA/AMD GPUs in future posts as pricing updates in the coming months.
