NVIDIA Preps GeForce RTX 5090 DD For China As Export-Compliant Model, Reportedly Features Blackwell GB202-240 GPU 1

NVIDIA is reportedly going to launch the GeForce RTX 5090 DD as the next flagship GPU for China to comply with export regulations.

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5090 DD To Be The Replacement For Banned GeForce RTX 5090 D, GB202-240 "Blackwell" Chip To Tick All Export Regulations

[Update - 6/18/25] - Kopite7kimi has shared more details regarding what we can expect from the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5090 DD in terms of specifications. It looks like the chip will retain the 21,760 core count of the RTX 5090 and RTX 5090 D, but the memory is scaled down to 24 GB across a 384-bit bus while running at 28 Gbps speeds, and the TDP remains the same at 575W.

[Original Article] - The NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5090 D was launched alongside the GeForce RTX 5090 back in January as an export-compliant variant designed for the Chinese market. The card featured similar specs to the core configuration, but its total TOPS was scaled down. That meant the gaming performance was the same as the standard RTX 5090 with the same 21,760 cores and 32 GB of GDDR7 memory.

However, soon after the launch of the GeForce RTX 5090 D, we started hearing reports that NVIDIA was asking AIBs to stop sales of the product in China and was ending production due to the latest export restrictions from the United States Administration. This was about the same time when we also started hearing reports of a newer model for China, which would feature significantly cut-down specs.

It looks like now we have a taste of what to expect from the new graphics card, which will be called the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5090 DD. Surely an odd naming choice, and while this is still a rumor, it is coming from leaker, MEGAsizeGPU, who has a very credible record of NVIDIA leaks. It is stated that the GPU will feature the GB202-240 GPU versus the GB202-250 on the 5090 D and GB202-300 on the standard 5090. The card will also feature a newer PCB design, the PG145 SKU 40, which is due to changes within the VRAM and GPU layout, as we will detail below.

According to previous reports, the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5090 DD will feature 14,080 CUDA cores and a 24 GB GDDR7 memory configuration across a 384-bit interface. That's a core count drop of 35% and a VRAM cut of 25%. The GPU will also feature a lower TBP, and we don't have more info regarding the clock speeds, but gaming performance is expected to drop by almost 20-30%, which is quite significant.

While NVIDIA has previously priced the China variant close to the global variant, this time, they would be unable to do the same, and we should expect a lower price. Probably around $1500 US since the full RTX 5090 has an MSRP of $1999 US. There's no word on when the new card launches, but it should be coming soon, probably in a few weeks.
