A user has managed to receive NVIDIA's GeForce RTX 5080 labeled as an "RTX 5090," raising questions about Team Green's manufacturers' quality control methods.

NVIDIA Apparently Fails QC Check Here, As A Buyer Manages To Receive A Mislabelled GeForce RTX 5090

Well, NVIDIA's RTX Blackwell GPU launch was indeed a whole fiasco, but it seems like things are starting to evolve pretty interestingly; according to a post by Redditor @EssDee3D, the individual managed to receive a GeForce RTX 5080 GPU, which was apparently mislabeled and instead was presented as NVIDIA's flagship RTX Blackwell GPU. While the individual had high hopes that he had received an upgrade, his luck didn't play out, as it was indeed the SKU he ordered, just not labeled correctly.

The Redditor posted a dedicated video testing out the GPU on Windows and GPU-Z, and to his surprise, the GPU was the RTX 5080, different from the current labeling. It is surprising that NVIDIA is involved in such a mistake, given that the company usually has a robust QC mechanism that allows it to avoid such problems. However, on this occasion, given how similar the design language of the GeForce RTX 5080 and the RTX 5090 are, it might be that the respective manufacturer would have messed up the labeling. But it was pretty interesting to see.

Such units might be "collector items" for some, while for others, it would likely mean confined resale prospects, given that the difference in labeling would make many consumers doubtful of buying the GPU. We don't know whether NVIDIA would RMA the unit for such a reason, but at least it would be something to try out, and we'll reach the Redditor to see if he does it. NVIDIA's RTX Blackwell launch was indeed a messed up one, considering the confined supply, and things aren't looking to improve, at least in the upcoming weeks.
