NVIDIA's proposed Taiwan headquarters is reportedly under the influence of political and administrative factors, putting Team Green in a 'disappointing' situation.

NVIDIA's Taiwan HQ Could See a Delay If The Firm Doesn't Reach an Agreement With Local Insurance Firm

For those unaware, at Computex 2025, one of the more significant announcements by NVIDIA was the establishment of a Taiwan headquarters. CEO Jensen Huang stated that the decision to build the headquarters in the region was intended to reaffirm the importance of Taiwan and the company's partners in the nation. The headquarters, called 'Constellation', spans 3.89 hectares and is one of NVIDIA's most significant projects in Taiwan. However, a report by Taiwan Economic Daily claims that the Taiwan HQ has been stalled and that the "T17 and T18" bases are now facing a dispute with a domestic insurance company.

The report claims that Shin Kong Life Insurance, an insurance division of Taiwan's Shin Kong Bank, apparently wants a 'build-first-then-transfer' plan, which means that the firm proposes to build the headquarters first, then later transfer the land rights. However, NVIDIA is opposed to this plan, mainly because Team Green has high requirements regarding the architectural design, and the firm doesn't want to involve a third party in the construction process.

Granting construction rights to someone 'unpreferable' puts the risk of whether the building meets NVIDIA's aspirations, which is why Team Green is determined to outsource construction to its preferred partner. Apart from this, it is claimed that the Taiwan HQ is also subjected to domestic political arguments, and while the report itself doesn't detail what they could be, it is revealed that the project is subjected to a "political war of words", which is unfavourable for NVIDIA.

NVIDIA's CEO has repeatedly emphasized the importance of Taiwan to the global tech industry, and establishing an HQ in the region underscores the company's commitment to its local employees. While the above-mentioned issues are significant, NVIDIA will certainly address them, as the stalling of an HQ is a severe matter, and the firm would want to streamline its operations in the country without any delays. We have asked NVIDIA to comment on the story.
