After Noctua announced its fan 3D CAD models for public usage, it clarified that these aren't meant for 3d printing.
Noctua Allows Printing CAD Fan Models, but Clarified That These Have Altered Fan Blade Geometry
Popular fan and cooler manufacturer, Noctua, has recently announced on its X handle and the official website that it's now offering 3D CAD fan models for all of its fans for the public. These 3D CAD models reportedly represent "accurate" mounting and external dimensions fo the fans. However, if you think that you can simply 3D print an existing Noctua fan, then you are mistaken.
On the official website as well as in a reply to PC Guide, the company clarified that these 3D CAD models aren't fit for "3D printing". Noctua says that while users are free to print the files, the models are not intended for functional reproduction. Since these designs are primarily for mechanical integration and visualization workflows, they might be suitable for designing around Noctua fans, but not to clone them.
Noctua has explicitly informed readers that the public CAD assets accurately representing the mounting points, but include subtle changes to the internal structures such as the fan impeller geometry. This is why the 3D printed versions of these models won't match the real Noctua fans. The released CAD files are meant to help people, such as engineers, case and fan designers to integrate fans designed around Noctua products into custom systems without needing manual measurements.
However, since the airflow-defining structures of the fans have been altered, it prevents reverse engineering. That's why Noctua has informed the users that these models should not be used for 3D printing, thinking one can replicate the existing Noctua fans. It's still a big move by the company as hardly any other vendor releases the 3D CAD fan files publicly.
