EmuDeck developer has made their own Steam Machine, resembling an Xbox Series S console & packs an AMD Ryzen CPU with an RX 9060 XT GPU.

Steam Machine Capabilities In An Xbox Series S Design: EmuDeck's Playnix Console is Powered By Linux & Packs AMD Ryzen CPU, RX 9060 XT & 16 GB RAM

EmuDeck, who are responsible for making emulation possible on SteamOS platforms such as the Steam Deck, couldn't wait for the Steam Machines to land and decided to make their own console called the Playnix.

The Playnix console is very much a PC in a console shape. It resembles the Xbox Series S, though slightly bulkier, measuring 320x246x64mm (Xbox Series S measures 275x151x65mm). At the same time, the PC packs quite a punch given its compact form factor.

For example, the CPU on the Playnix console is an AMD Ryzen 5 with 6 cores, operating at 3.5 GHz & with a TDP of 65W. The system memory is 16 GB of DDR4-3200 memory in dual-channel configuration, which is upgradable, and the GPU is the AMD Radeon RX 9060 XT 16 GB, which should pack a punch. For cooling, the developer has gone with a Noctua and Thermalright heatsink+fans, and the system offers a single NVMe configured at 512 GB out of the box, plus there's an additional NVMe slot to boost storage capacities.

The system supports modern-day IO features such as Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.0, a 1GbE LAN port, 2 USB 3.0, 4 USB 2.0, and a USB 3.1 Type-C port. Display support is offered in the form of a single HDMI 2.1 & a single DP 2.1 port. The PSU is a Flex 600W design, which will give you some upgrading headroom for the GPU as long as it meets the design specifications of the case. The EmuDeck Playnix comes with a 2-year warranty.

The following are the requirements for a PC to get the "Steam Machine" verified badge, and it looks like the Playnix checks all boxes.

Playnix will come pre-installed with the PlaynixOS, which is a custom Arc-based Linux distribution made by EmuDeck. But users are free to use other operating systems such as Windows, Bazzite, SteamOS, etc.

On the official product page, EmuDeck states that their Playnix console is faster than Xbox Series X and PS5, and is on par with the PS5 Pro. It is able to play many AAA games at 4K 60 FPS using high settings and upscaling technologies such as FSR or XeSS (Quality presets). One example is Cyberpunk 2077, which runs smoothly on the console.

As for pricing, the system retails for €1139, and the first batch has already been sold. You will get the console along with a 4K HDMI cable, a power cable, and an 8BitDo Ultimate 2 controller in the package.
