Don’t Expect Sea of Thieves Reviews on March 20th As Press Will Be Active from Launch Day, Too

Sea of Thieves launch trailer

This month is set to be packed with game releases, including some rather big ones like Ubisoft's Far Cry 5 and Ni no Kuni II: Revenant Kingdom. However, Rare's Sea of Thieves is perhaps the game due this month with the most buzz thanks to the overwhelmingly positive feedback from the public beta tests.

Of course, being a "shared world pirate adventure game" as Rare likes to call it, the true test will be finding out whether Sea of Thieves has legs to keep people enticed for a long time.

However, you shouldn't count on Sea of Thieves reviews being available prior or on the March 20th launch date to help you in that regard. We just got word from Microsoft that while codes will be sent to the press next week, the game will only be playable on launch date when the public servers open. This makes sense as this couldn't really be experienced and thus reviewed in a fair way without a healthy online population, of course. Just keep in mind that it might be a while before you see any Sea of Thieves reviews - and in case you do see them, it's probably a good idea to be skeptical of how much time they actually spent with the live game.

Sea of Thieves will be available in less than two weeks on Windows 10 PC and Xbox One. Being an Xbox Play Anywhere title, you'll be able to play it on both platforms while retaining your progress, as well as joining any of your friends who play on another platform.

The game itself is priced at $60, but it will be the first big first-party game to launch day and date on the Xbox Game Pass subscription service, which also features a trial. Essentially, you will be able to try Sea of Thieves for free.
