The Nintendo Switch hardware is more than capable of running the vast majority of games at 60 FPS with some overclocking, a new video test revealed.
The new extreme overclocking test, which was shared by naga on YouTube a few days back, shows how a modified system with 8GB of RAM and with the CPU overclocked to a maximum of 2703 MHz, the GPU to a maximum of 1497 MHz and the aforementioned RAM to 3033 MHz, games like GTA San Andreas, Red Dead Redemption, Monster Hunter Rise, Assassin's Creed Black Flag and Xenoblade Chronicles 3 can run at steady 60 frames per second. One very interesting exception is Dragon Quest XI S, which has trouble running at higher than 30, 40 frames per second in most scenarios, even on an overclocked system.
As highlighted in previous tests, the Nintendo Switch console is mostly held back by its 4GB of RAM, as increasing it to 8GB provides some tangible benefits. Given that the low amount of RAM is one of the biggest issues of the weakest current generation system, the Xbox Series S, Nintendo will hopefully make sure its next console won't be limited in the same way. According to rumors, the console will come equipped with 12GB of RAM, which should be more than enough to deliver a solid 1080p experience, coupled with NVIDIA DLSS support.
